I'll be preaching and jamming out at the homeless ministry in just a little bit, so I am getting my materials together, and going over a few last minute things. For the music set I think I will be doing a couple of Hank Williams songs and the Jerry Garcia Band version of "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot". For an encore I might do " This Little Light of Mine". I am praying that the Lord will help me get a band together down here so we can do more ambitious material for the music portion. Music really helps reach people.
One of the nice things about ministering at this place is that I can do topical sermons. I like to keep it very practical, and preach on subjects that both the homeless and those who are not homeless (e.g. the people that work at the ministry) can relate to. Today the topic is going to be "anger". Preaching from a lectionary is somewhat limiting in terms of preaching on topics.
